Parents Hitting Their Children For this coursework, I will be looking at whether parents should be allowed to hit their children or children that are being looked after by them. Like most questions there are usually two sides to the argument. The 1st reason why parents should be allowed to hit their kids is to enforce a form of discipline. The other reason why hitting children is bad is because by hitting a child, they may be emotionally scared for life. Many people have different views on this topic; some are for it, some are against it. The United Nations (UN) as a violation of basic human rights have condemned the national U.K. law. Other parents argue that hitting your child is wrong. This is because hitting the child may upset them even after the discipline has been enforced. Hitting your child may physically and emotionally scar them. This could also make the child form hatred towards the parent. Some parents hit their child / children even though they may not want to. They can lose their temper in the heat of the moment and cant physically stop themselves from doing it. Many of these parents should find counselling to help them overcome this problem. When I was a child, my parents used to discipline me by hitting me but only if I behaved very badly. Looking back on it now, it wasnt so bad because they only ever hit me when I was naughty and I was never emotionally or physically hurt from it. I was only physically hurt for a moment but I guess thats one of the reasons why I behaved. Over time I eventually learnt how to behave the way my parents wanted me to so the hitting stopped. This made me the person I am today.
